Enjoyable, Simple and Fun

Post Via amazon in Wii Games Review

Cooking Mama: Cook Off
I bought this game because it looked like it would be really silly, but fun. I was right! This game is a great multi-player game for people who don't play video games a lot or want something simple.
The game play isn't extremely hard, but some of the recipes are more challenging then others. The varying difficulty level makes it easy to involve everyone in the game play.
I brought this game to a party with kids ranging from 10 to 20 years of age. Everyone had a good time playing it and picked up the game rather quickly.

If you are looking for a challenging, story filled one player game, this isn't it. It only took me a couple hours to complete the one player mode and unlock all the recipes. But, as a multi-player game, it is the first one everyone wants to play on the Wii.

Cooking Mama review

Post Via amazon in Wii Games Review

Cooking Mama: Cook Off
This game takes something that gamers never think about being fun and makes it just that. I hate cooking but this game is addictive and there is no mess or dishes to do witch is a real bonus. This game is a strong message from nintendo that they are willing to go anywhere and do anything to show off there unique system. Cooking Mama is great because of concept and playability anyone can do it,but it takes skill to do it well. who would have ever thought secrets in a game would be a recipe. the only thing that keeps this from being perfect is the repetitive phrases that get old quickly. A must have for the wii.

Zombie (mother) from hell!

Post Via amazon in Wii Games Review

Resident Evil 4
Great game - reportedly - (the five score are from my sons aged 12 and 14). They say it is very frightening. Exciting. I reviewed the cover only upon arrival and saw that my 14 year old had ordered a 17 year old and up game. We sent it back immediately although he can walk 3 blocks in the cold and play it in a public spot. We cannot control our children, their choices and their desires but I wish we could instill some social conscience in Nintendo to stop training unsupervised twelve year olds for war. (Signed hippy mother).

Best game in a long time

Post Via amazon in Wii Games Review

Resident Evil 4
I own a lot of games. I have games for the Xbox 360, Xbox and the Wii. I've played GTA: San Andreas, Elder Scrolls: Oblivion, Super Paper Mario... basically, I've played all of the best games out there according to reviews and my own personal prefrences. They were all awesome I might add. But I must say, Resident Evil 4 is the best game I have played since the The Legend of Zelda: The Ocarina of Time (widly regarded as the best game of all time mind you)quite a while ago. I love the controls the most of any game I think I've ever played.

The story, while not the most original (kidnapping the presidents daughter) is made acceptable by genuinly creepy villans, and scary settings. The enemies are smart enough to gang up on you and the replay value is high. You can go on multiple playthroughs on two difficulty levels unlocking various weapons and costumes.

There are three extra play modes which include Seperate Ways (Playing as Ada Wong through 5 missions that coincide with the regular campaign), Assignment Ada (playing as Ada through a mission to collect various parasite samples) and Mercenary Mode (you get to play as five unlockable characters to kill as many enemies as you can within the time limit).

Seeing as I play a lot of games, it surprises me that it would be a two year old port that would turn into my favorite game of all time (for the time being). I only rented it, but I plan on buying it, this is one of the few games that is fairly linear (in terms of what you must do) on each play through that I believe I could play over and over and over again without getting bored.

And at 30 dollars, I would consider it a steal. Possibly the greatest steal of all time.

So nice I bought it twice!

Post Via amazon in Wii Games Review

Resident Evil 4
I didn't think adding the Wii controls to this already amazing game could really do all that much. I was wrong.

It took about five minutes to get used to the new control scheme. Now I can't imagine going back.

A drawback to the new controls? The only thing I can think is that I'm a bit less conservative with the ammo. With the original Gamecube controls, there was more stop, aim, realize I didn't aim quick enough, run, stop, turn, aim, and shoot. With pinpoint accuracy using the Wiimote, it was stop, aim, explode head, explode head, etc.
Also, as I've stated in past reviews, being able to play a Wiimote/nunchuk game left-handed is especially important. Fortunately, there's absolutely no problem making the switch.

There's a ton of extras brought over from the PS2 port, including true widescreen presentation.

Think of it as everything good from both the GC and PS2, with the joyous addition of Wii controls.

If you've played this on another system, or if you've never played it before, this is definitely a title you should pick up.

The GC Masterpiece makes a Bargin-Bin Wii Comeback

Post Via amazon in Wii Games Review

Resident Evil 4
At only $30, this is a fantastic opportunity for anyone who missed out on one of the best experiences of the Gamecube/Playstation 2. But even better, at $30 this is still a bargin for those of us who have already played and beaten the crap out of it.

For those who are unfamiliar, in Resident Evil 4 you are Leon S. Kennedy, a man sent on a mission to retrieve the president's kidnapped daughter. The storyline is kind of corney, but it works.

The storyline is fairly irrelevent though, since the creepy atmosphere and intense gameplay more than make up for the corny storyline.

But perhaps best of all are the controls. The GC/PS2 version's controls were tight and easy to use. But with the Wii remote as a pointing device, the controls just got much better. Simply pointing at whatever you want to die is far easier and more satisfying than trying to grapple with innacurate analogue sticks.

RE4 is well-paced and challenging. Once you think you're safe, the game throws more chainsaw-wielding madmen at you. And before you even grow tired of your surroundings, the game mixes it up with a creepy village, a cult-driven castle, and a military base, all with unique enemies and challenges and hidden treasures and upgradable weapons and intense boss fights and...

Well you get the point. The game was phenomenal on Gamecube, was still phenomenal on Playstation 2, and now it's gotten even better with pin-point accurate Wii controls. Highly recommended.

Fantastic Game

Post Via amazon in Wii Games Review

Resident Evil 4
This was my first Resident Evil game, and I purchased it for the Wii because of its high reviews. When I first picked it up, I played it for about an hour and I wasnt happy with it. But I gave it a second chance, and the game totally blew me away. Its a game that you will have to decompress after you play it for a few hours, because it has such a high intensity. Throughout the majority of the game I felt like i was going to run out of ammo and have to go back to a prior save. But the reality was that I never had too. This is an absolutely amazing feat on the part of the game designers, because it puts you continuously on edge. There really isnt much more to say beyond, play this game, and make sure to give it the chance it deserves - you wont be disappointed.

It's as good as all the reviews say...

Post Via amazon in Wii Games Review

Resident Evil 4
I haven't played an FPS since Doom, but I'd read such good reviews about the Wii version of this game I had to try it. Surprisingly, it lives up to the hype. The control scheme is great, it's very natural and satisfying. Gameplay is good too; not too easy, not too hard. I've never been a fan of games where you can't save whenever you want, but the combination of spots you can save manually plus automatic checkpoints as you enter places you're likely to get killed works well. I liked the atmosphere as well, it seemed immersive (i.e. scary). My first time through I was nervous and took things slowly, so it took 88 hours. My second run, keeping all the gear I had from the first, took about 18. Amazingly, it's just as fun the second time through, especially since you make enough money to upgrade all your weapons. You also unlock two new weapons at the end of the first run, which is nice, although the infinite launcher costs too much to afford for quite a while. After I made enough money to buy it I ran through a third time in about 11 hours - that was a blast, literally :)

Good points:
- Visuals and music combine for an immersive experience
- Great, natural control scheme for moving and shooting
- Wide variety of weapons, each with its own use, leaving you the fun of using the ones you prefer (though there are a couple of short sections which are much harder if you don't use a rifle with infrared scope)
- Interesting story for a first person shooter
- You get some of the feel of a role playing game in terms of leveling, since you can upgrade your max health with herbs you find and can upgrade your weapons with the cash you earn from loot and treasures. Going to the merchant and finding a new upgrade available feels just like leveling.
- Good replayability, both the original mission (which seems to get harder after the first time through) and the bonuses. The Mercenaries game is pretty much a live shooting gallery where the targets shoot back, they are fun (and hard) quickies.

Minor complaints:
- Merchants are killable. In a couple of spots I didn't notice the usual blue flame marker from my vantage point so just shot the suspicious looking character from a distance. This was annoying, making me restart from last checkpoint.
- No visual indicator when enemies approach you from outside your view. Usually you know this can happen from context (like when you're on a bridge and people start over from both sides), but I nearly had a heart attack a couple of times when someone hit me from the back or side unexpectedly.
- Rocket launcher didn't have an ammo count of 1. It says single fire, but I didn't realize that it was usable until the very end, I kept carrying it around waiting for ammo to show up.
- There are a few parts where you have to wave the remote or press selected buttons. I didn't really care for these twitch things but thankfully they're mostly easy, short and you are checkpointed right before these start so you can just replay them until you survive.

Aside from these minor nits, I found the game to be amazingly fun, well worth the money, and well suited to the Wii.

Excellent Wii Release for Easier Gameplay

Post Via amazon in Wii Games Review

Resident Evil 4
I originally owned Resident Evil 4 for the Gamecube and I was frustrated with the cumbersome sights and aiming mechanism and poor reaction time limited by the controller. Enter the Nintendo Wii remote.

Obviously you're allowed to aim with the Wii remote as the ubiquitous laser sight is replaced with an ever-present cross hair. This allows for considerably better accuracy and reaction time. My first time through my accuracy was around 75% (I know, I'm a terrible person) and my reaction time was pitiful. With the Wii edition my accuracy went up to 90% and better reaction time. The downside is the cross hair is always there and can be slightly annoying; I think the laser sighting would've been more appropriate and only present when aiming. Another downside is you cannot aim scoped weapons (rifles and launchers) with the Wii remote, but with the nunchuck. It might be better to have allowed aiming with the Wii remote similar to Call of Duty 3 but that's my preference.

Pertaining to the gameplay and graphics they're almost no different than the PSXII or Gamecube version; if there is a difference I certainly didn't notice it. Don't let this deter you as the gameplay makes up for that and if you're like me and started with the Gamecube version, you get all the bonuses of the PSXII version only you can aim better. You get the five chapters of Separate Ways (Ada's quest), the special costume 2 set (mafia outfit and Thompson for Leon and the suit of armor for Ashley (annoying to hear but boy it comes in handy A LOT in the castle).

Lastly, there's one Wii exclusive element and that is the trailer for Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles... and there was much rejoicing (Monty Python yay). Not much cool stuff for the Wii but oh well. The release price, however, sets it apart from other Wii titles to the point where it's cheaper than most to purchase.

Overall RE4 for Wii is worth purchasing if you're a Wii owner; it improves your game and you can still enjoy the classic arcade blowing heads off spree. Wheee!

a thrill of a game

Post Via amazon in Wii Games Review

Resident Evil 4
okay, i want to get it right out. i normally do NOT play these types of games, i mean i don't mind the gore or swearing and all, i just don't like games that scare you. to much for me.
so why do you ask did i play RE4? well, lets just say curiosity finally got to me, so i said what the hell and i got the game for the Wii. and let me say, it was one of the most fun i have ever had playing a video game! i never thought blowing the heads of crazed villagers would be this much fun! i don't think i've had this much fun with a Wii game since Twilight Princess.
the plot is simple enought, Agent Leon Kennedy is assigned to locate and rescue the president's daughter, who has been kidnapped by a group of mysterious creatures. and once Leon enters a nearby house, lets just say he is in for more then he bargained for. all the villagers seem to be...possessed or something and are intent on ripping your head off the first chance they get. now Leon must fight his way through these enemies and rescue the presidents daughter before he is done in.
let me say, the graphics are amazing and the control scheme is great! at first, i had a bit of difficulty getting the hang of it but after a few trial and error runs, i was soon blasting heads with ease. the enemies are numerous, the bosses challenging, and the enviorments are just the right amount of creepy. the plot is also good and voice acting is right on par. all these elements combined make RE4 a helluvah game.
now that i've finished the game, i think i'll look in on a lot more survival horror games and will glady put my money down for RE5. so a great game and a must have for people who have yet to experience RE4.
